RATING

The Acer Aspire TC-1760-UA92 is a mid-tier daily use desktop that will sit pretty fine in the living room, the home office, and the busy everyday lives. It succeeds the already popular Acer Aspire TC-1660-UA92 that we reviewed late last year, and it does so by combining newer components including a 12th generation Intel Core i5 processor, a fairly revamped design, and low prices.

The Acer Aspire TC Series is available in a variety of configurations and that means that you should pay more attention to the hardware on the model youโ€™re buying. Some of these rigs are meant for basic use, others are more powerful and can be used for mid-complex tasks like photo editing and light gaming.

Since 2016 when we reviewed the first Acer Aspire TC desktop, weโ€™ve reviewed over thirty different models, and almost all of them are priced under $1,000, of course, with a few exceptions in between.

From experience, weโ€™ve learned a thing or two about Aspire TC desktops, they are capable and super-affordable, and thatโ€™s more reason they always make it to our best home computers list every year, as one of the more affordable, everyday use PC options.

The Aspire TC-1760-UA92 in this review is at the forefront of consumer value. If you decide to buy this PC, all youโ€™ll need to add is a monitor, since Acer includes a wired keyboard and mouse in the package. Itโ€™s among the few PCs that offer incredible value for the buck: But what makes it so great, and what are its drawbacks โ€“ if any? Letโ€™s find out and see whether or not itโ€™s truly the deal it seems.

Design and Features

The Aspire TC-1760-UA92 gets a better design and looks better than most of its competitors: the front combines dark, brushed metal with a sleek, eye-power button and stylish angular angles. As with all other Aspire TCs, build quality is beyond reproach โ€“ well, some of the metal and plastic used on the externals chassis is a bit flimsy, but it will certainly last several years to come.

The Acerโ€™s mid-size tower dimensions help it fit into everyday life; you donโ€™t have to worry about the little space available on your desk. Measuring just 13.399 inches tall and only 6.42 inches wide, itโ€™s significantly smaller than most other towers in this price range.

The design’s practicality extends to the connectivity options available on the case. On the front, there is a full-size USB 3.2 port, a USB 3.2 Type-C connector, and two headphone/microphone jacks, which are decent enough for most of your peripherals. And, rather surprisingly, this PC offers a DVD drive, which is unusual since most manufacturers are dropping the optical drive from most of their machines.

Around the back, thereโ€™s one more USB 3.2 port, four USB 2.0 ports, two HDMI ports, three audio jacks, and an Ethernet port. Wireless connectivity comes in way of Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. Thereโ€™s room to mount an external hard drive, and Acer has done all the cable work for you, making upgrading simpler.

The Acer Aspire TC-1760-UA92 includes a basic, wired keyboard and mouse. While theyโ€™re not high-end peripherals, and they may not satisfy keen typists, theyโ€™re nonetheless fine for everyday home and work use. Youโ€™ll have to buy the monitor separately โ€“ both the Acer SB220Q bi and HP 24mh are great, affordable monitors to consider.

Performance

The TC-1760-UA92 gets the much-anticipated jump up to 12th Gen Intel CPUs, and sure, 12th Gen chips deliver excellent performance. The 12th Gen Intl Core i5-12400 6-core processor, 12GB DDR4 RAM, and 512GB NVMe SSD storage are a steal at this price. While the PC doesnโ€™t have the option for a dedicated GPU configuration, it still works fine out of the box. The included integrated Intel UHD Graphics 730 shouldnโ€™t be relied on for robust gaming, but they provide some nice little pep for casual work or play.

Performance is decent; this isnโ€™t going to break any records, but it can certainly handle productivity work well. In that regard, itโ€™s going to do a great job as a media center in the living room, a reliable PC at the office, multitasking as well as photo editing and video editing.

Cable management is top-notch, and should you need to add some extra storage, the required cables are already zip-tied near the extra HDD mounts.

Should you need a desktop for around this price for work and some bit of gaming, the HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop is worth a long look, with its AMD Ryzen 5 processor and a dedicated Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 graphics card. Still, the Aspire TC-1760-UA92 remains a capable desktop for office-centric tasks such as word processing, spreadsheet work, web browsing, and home entertainment.

Should you buy the Acer Aspire TC?

If you need an affordable, do-it-all for the home office, YES. The Acer Aspire TC-1760-UA92 is an unfussy and reliable everyday computer. If you need a machine that packs modern components for handling emails at the office, browsing the web, and running office software, itโ€™ll get the job done with plenty of speed and minimal fuss.

With the Aspire TC, Acer managed to craft a compact and good-looking desktop PC, thatโ€™s well-suited for offices and living rooms, and the decent connectivity improves versatility โ€“ which easily makes for an ideal computing hub for a busy family. It works smoothly out of the box if youโ€™re not tech-savvy, and the inclusion of a keyboard and mouse is a boon.

Overall, if youโ€™re shopping for a budget PC for the home office and want to spend as little money as possible without sacrificing too much on performance, the Acer Aspire TC-1760-UA92 is about the best value for your money.
